I backed up my old mac and then transferred the data to my new mac. Am I okay to delete the iTunes playlists on my old mac to free up storage? I don't want to lose the songs on my new mac.

If the data has been transferred to your new Mac, it's perfectly okay to delete the iTunes playlist on your old Mac. If you use iTunes, there will a copy of your music on the iTunes desktop. You can also find it in (user)/Music/iTunes Music.
However, in the interest of safety, urge any Mac user to keep a backup of important or valuable files as a backup.
